One of the easy techniques to make images black & white is to use the Black and White Adjustment Layer. To use this method, simply go to Layer —> New Adjustment Layer —> Black & White, and then OK. You can also change some colors if needed.

Gradient Map Adjustment Layer
Another easy and fast way to convert a color image to black & white in Photoshop is Gradient Map Adjustment Layer. Follow below route to use the tool.
Just go to Layer —> New Adjustment Layer —> Gradient Map and OK.
In the Gradient Properties tab, which range from black to white, select and apply.

If you want to increase the black and white color concentration in your image and make the image appear to be blacker, then press the Ctrl + J keys in the Layers panel to make a copy of this layer. Then place the Blending Mode in the upper part of the Layers panel on the Soft Light for this layer.
Channel Mixer Adjustment Layer
You can create a black & white image in Photoshop by going to Layer> New Adjustment Layer> Channel Mixer and ticking Monochrome.
By playing with blue, red and green, you can get your desired result.
